Meet @Tiiny.dream

Like a lot of Aussies in their 20s, the idea of having a large mortgage just didn't appeal, yet we wanted to be investing in ourselves and have our own space. Buying a tiny house has allowed us to achieve just that; we have a beautiful home without mountains of debt. We can make changes as we wish, and it's our project to be proud of.

At the moment, we have few financial burdens, but we know how quickly that can change. The financial freedom will mean that we can prioritise our happiness and living a lifestyle that fulfils us, over our financial obligations.

Going tiny seemed like a logical step for us, and we're so happy we made the decision.

Another aspect which convinced us to go tiny is the transportability. We're at a stage in our lives where we're not ready to commit to settling in one place. The movability of the home is a huge factor. The concept that we can take our house with us if we choose to relocate means that life can be far more flexible; we don't need to consider rental contracts or financial loss of selling a house soon after buying. The costs and logistics of moving are negligible compared to that of selling and packing up an actual house, providing us with the opportunity to pursue careers which may take us around the state.

We've spent a lot of time travelling together, and the idea of living in a small space just didn't worry us. However, just in case, we asked several people who live in small situations how their relationships have altered in the small space, and they gave us a good idea of what was to be expected; not much personal space and hard to get some time alone. Luckily this works well for us, and we're more than happy to be living this way. We treasure the time together and enjoy the proximity. If anything, it's made us closer, even if it's sometimes a little challenging to concentrate on studying.

Finding land for the house is something we'll need to consider until we're in a position where we can buy our own. We've been fortunate that opportunities have opened themselves up for us. We're currently living on a beautiful rural block, with mountain views and access to mountain biking, trail running and rock climbing, whilst still being close to amenities and community.

We live a very active, outdoorsy life and it's so important to us that we live somewhere where we have access to the things we love. Having our tiny house means that we can move to suit our lifestyle, whatever that may be at the time. It's a bonus that we're entirely off-grid, allowing us to leave as little impact on the land as possible, and giving us the flexibility to place the house wherever we choose.

We're so happy with the choice to live tiny as it makes so much sense for us and the way we live. For anyone thinking about making the move; it gets our stamp of approval.
